Copventry-based D&S Engineering aims to expand into exciting new markets in the global aerospace sector following a move to significantly bigger premises, and simultaneously invested £190,000 in new machinery.

The family owned business which has 12 employees is a leader in its branch of precision engineering, but its new approach to business development has been driven by the appointment of Darin Tudor, a specialist in aerospace business, who was introduced to the company by Jeremy Moore of the Coventry and Warwickshire LEP Growth Hub.

Richard Maconnachie, the managing director of D&S said:”We have 45 years of experience in precision engineering but by more than doubling the size of our premises, we are looking to expand into making products for airframe manufacturers where the quantities are much higher.”

“We are also looking to diversify into civil usage since we have bought our sixth Swiss designed five axis CNC high specification machine, and a further CNC CMM machine making a total of four, which gives us extra capacity to manufacture larger products.”

Darin Tudor said that D&S have very special skills and can now look to make their move into the aerospace sector as they are in talks with ‘several of the largest aerospace companies in the UK.’

He added:”The next stage is to encourage organisations to come to visit D&S’s new facilities which have huge historical significance since it is where the Jaguar XK 220 was built.”

Jeremy Moore of the CWLEP Growth Hub added:”It sometimes only takes a few minutes to understand the requirments of a business and we were able to introduce Richard and Darin which is already proving to be mutually beneficial, and that is why businesses should engage with the Growth Hub because there is a whole host of support we can provide.”
